Technic, the iconic audio equipment producer, released 2 new products at the CES Trade Show in Las Vegas last week. Both products come as part of Panasonic’s revamping of the company and its products.

Technics SL 1200 MK7 Turntable

This one is purely for the DJs. It’s been eleven years since the release of the last model, the SL 1200 MK6. And, we’re hoping it’s worth all the hype. The company claimed they have “re-engaged with DJs” in order to create the latest version. The sleek black exterior, the model comes with minimal changes to the design. The major differences lie in the technology, they claim. The MK7 will also have the ability to play in reverse. But, only as long as your cartridge and needle are also compatible. It incorporates a new motor control, which will further benefit DJs who like to scratch.

Technics SL 1500C Turntable with Built-In Phono Stage

This is yet another classic deck that gets a well-deserved upgrade. Immediately following the announcement of the SL 12000 MK7, Technics revealed the SL 1500C. While the former is pretty much only for DJs, the later is simpler and designed to be more accessible. By accessible, they mean less complex features and a more affordable price range. This new version features an integrated MM phono amp for easy connectivity. It also has an Ortofon 2M Red cartridge. Technics has taken care to isolate the phono EQ power supply from that of the motor and control circuitry in order to reduce inference. Meanwhile, the fitted cartridge gives the SL-1500C an out-of-the-box playability. The SL-1500C is “designed for a wide range of users, even outside of strictly dedicated audio enthusiasts,” Technics management stated.

Inheriting much of the design of the SL-1200 range, the SL-1500C sports a coreless direct-drive motor to maintain the smoothest possible rotation. It promises to “achieve high torque performance equaling that of the SL-1200MK5.” Additionally, it features motor control technology borrowed from Panasonic’s Blu-Ray developments. This keeps the two-layer platter (made of deadening rubber and die-cast aluminium) rotating steadily.

The Deets

There is no news yet when these products will be released on the market or exactly how much they will cost. It is rumoured, however, that the price tag will be in the range of 4000 US dollars. A bit pricey if you ask us, but Technics claims it’s because all the technology is brand new.
