It’s fair to say Soho Garden has entered 2020 with a bang. After a double-header on its opening weekend with Defected and Glitterbox, the Meydan venue returns to action on Thursday 16th January.
And long-running UK night Abode are on hosting duties, bringing with them two of our favourite DJs in Skream and WaFF.
After helping pioneer the dubstep sound that took over the world in the mid-noughties, Skream changed musical direction, becoming a house and techno DJ and producer. While the move could have been a tricky one to pull off, Skream has become a main player in the 4/4 scene. And having been locked in the studio for months perfecting his latest batch of beats, we can’t wait to hear what he’s got in store.
And as a little taster, get your ears around this excellent Essential Sessions Mix he recorded for BBC Radio 1 recently. The 22-track mix is entirely made up of new Skream tracks, reworks and edits and is pure fire!
We’re just as excited for WaFF on the line up. The Leeds and Hull producer has risen to the top in recent years with sets alongside industry titans like Jamie Jones and Sven Väth. Last year was his biggest to date. He had a full-time residency at Paradise in Ibiza plus gigs at Burning Man, Glastonbury, Space Miami and more. He’s also one of the most in-demand producers as well, turning out techno bangers for Drumcode and Loco Dice’s label Desolat.
What really sets Skream and WaFF apart is that the party begins with them in the DJ booth. While some DJ’s can go through the motions a little, the passion Skream and WaFF have for the music and dancefloor is obvious.
Factor in Abode Records resident DJ Ellie Cocks on warm up and the Abode gig on Thursday 16th January should be very, very good indeed!
