Lagerfeld is an industry icon with a career spanning over seven decades!
Lagerfeld kicked off his career as Pierre Balmain’s assistant then moved to French designer Jean Patou where he worked on a number of couture collections and by 1965 he was freelancing for Chloé and started working with Fendi, where he continued creative director until his passing.
Lagerfeld was always forward-looking. He told the New York Times a while back “We created a product nobody needs, but people want. If you need an ugly old car, it can wait, but if you want a new fashion item, it cannot wait.”
Lagerfeld was not only a fashion designer – he was an artist, photographer, director and author and someone that made fashion accessible – collaborating with the likes of H&M, Coca-cola and BMW.
Lagerfeld once said:
“Whatever it is, good or bad, it influences fashion. You can see that in fashion quicker than in any other thing going on. Fashion is something that reflects our lives and times with the shortest release, because, cars, design and architecture take years to realize.”
