Superstars JAY-Z and Timbaland are facing some legal issues and its proving to be an expensive exercise.
The legal problems are related to a song which is more than 20 years old!
Soul artist Ernie Hines filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against the duo for the use of his composition “Help Me Put Out the Flame (In my Heart),”. Hines alleges that it appears on the Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life cut “Paper Chase.”
JAY-Z and Timbaland Being Sued
Sources say that Hines is suing for damages to the amount of more than $2 million USD.
Jay Z, Timbaland, Roc-A-Fella Records and Sony Music are all mentioned in a lawsuit by the 81-year-old musician.
The artist says that his track from 1969 was sampled without his permission. He also claims that he ever received royalties for the track. The lawyer also explained that Ernie Hines is a senior citizen who does not listen to rap music which means he wasn’t made aware of “Paper Chase” up until last year.
To add a cherry on top of the “Paper Chase” claims, Hines also notes Timbaland’s unofficial use of “Help Me” on Ginuwine’s album, 100% Ginuwine.
Ginuwine was however not included as a defendant on the lawsuit by Hines.
