The coronavirus pandemic has raised havoc in many industries and the music and entertainment industry is no exception to that statement.
So many events due to take place in 2020 have already been cancelled while others have been postponed to later dates in 2020.
But now, a healthcare expert in the US now says that festivals and concerts will most likely only return until autumn 2021!
Concerts & Festivals To Only Resume In 2021
According to the New York Times, bioethicist and professor of healthcare management Zeke Emanuel says that he has cannot understand how promoters who are rescheduling arts and music events for later this year “think that’s a plausible possibility”.
“Larger gatherings – conferences, concerts, sporting events – when people say they’re going to reschedule this conference or graduation event for October 2020, I have no idea how they think that’s a plausible possibility. I think those things will be the last to return,”
He then adds that:
“Realistically we’re talking fall 2021 at the earliest.”
Some 2020 Festivals Already Cancelled
A number of music festivals around the world have already cancelled their 2020 events, such as Glastonbury, BST Hyde Park and Governors Ball to name a few.
On the other hand, some festivals like Coachella have postponed them to later in the year.
In the interview, Manuel further recommends that:
“Restarting the economy has to be done in stages, and it does have to start with more physical distancing at a worksite that allows people who are at lower risk to come back”
Only time will tell what the future will hold and how it will all unfold.
It’s not the greatest news to hear but for now all we can do is stay positive, stay safe and stay home!
