Iconic tales like Shakespeare’s Othello

This award-winning musical hits Dubai Opera from 31 January to 2 February. It follows a critically acclaimed tour and London run. Richard Twyman’s vital production of Othello is performed by UK Theatre Award winners English Touring Theatre in a co-production with Oxford Playhouse and Shakespeare at the Tobacco Factory. Consequently, the musical has garnered an all-star rating across the board.

Othello is one of Shakespeare’s most startlingly contemporary plays. It depicts a life torn apart by prejudice. In it, a western colonial power employs the newly-married Othello, a Muslim general, to lead their army against the impending Turkish invasion. As a result, in a society torn apart by discrimination and fear, Othello’s life quickly unravels. In the end, manipulated by Iago, he turns on everything he holds dear.

Operas and ballets from all over the world

Throughout February and into March, operas and ballets from around the world adorn the stages at Dubai’s magical opera house. Shows range from Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyvazov to The Merry Widow to the Stars of the American Ballet. Hence, the wide range of entertainment brings Dubai’s class level up a notch, placing out city on the map of international culture.
