DJ Mag have announced the results of their Alternative Top 100 DJs poll.
The poll was launched in 2018 in association with Beatport and is generated by combining Top 100 DJs voting data together with techno and house sales data from the world’s largest online electronic music shop.
For the second year in a row, Carl Cox has taken the number 1 spot.
Carl Cox Takes Number One Spot
Carl told DJ Mag:
“I haven’t stopped since 1988. Can you imagine if I mapped out every single party I’ve ever done? The map would be riddled with pin-drops everywhere — it would be a complete rash of events that I’ve played. It’s been a mad journey. I’m 57 now, in three more years I’m 60, but I don’t feel like that — age is still a number, and I still do what I do to the best of my ability.”Carl Cox
Highlights From The Poll
Other than Carl Cox, there were two more non-movers – Solardo held steady in 11th place and Danish Kölsch stood strong at 20th place. Some new names to the poll include James Zabiela, Deborah De Luca, Guy J as well as Purple Disco Machine amongst others.
Peggy Gou, who’s playing at Blue Marlin Ibiza this weekend is a huge climber in the poll – moving from 40th spot to number 8!
Techno Goes Tops
The results of this year’s poll make it clear that there’s a trend towards techno overall.
This is probably no surprise as techno has been the highest-selling genre for several years in a row now and we can see the Alternative Top 100 DJs poll is also reflecting this trend.
