Family members of the late Avicii, have announced that a posthumous album will be released later this year.
The album will be named ‘TIM’ – which is a reference to the late producer’s real name, Tim Bergling.
The album is due to be released on 6 June, with the new single ‘SOS’ dropping 10 April.
The family said in a statement:
When Tim Bergling passed away on April 20, 2018, he was close to completing a new album. He left behind a collection of nearly finished songs, along with notes, email conversations and text messages about the music. The songwriters that Tim was collaborating with on this album have continued the process to get as close to his vision as possible.”
The family have decided to share his work with his fans all around the world and not hidden away.
All proceeds from the sales of the album will go to the Tim Bergling Foundation, the new non-profit organisation set up in Avicii’s name. The purpose of the foundation is to help treat mental illness and prevent suicide, which his family launched at the end of March.
“Tim wanted to make a difference,” the family said at the time of the foundation’s launch.
A Tragic Loss
Avicii was found dead in April last year, when his publicist confirmed the sad news, saying: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii.”
Following the tragic news of Avicii’s death, people paid homage to the star in various ways. Some of his songs also topped the Spotify charts with 10 of them entering the global top 50.
