Teetotal Diet Coke-drinking superstar DJ Kaskade denied he was promoting drug culture in an interview with the New York Times this week, declaring 'club culture is about leaving your cares behind, and I am trying to create that environment. I honestly don't think you need to be high to enjoy that."

The hugely successful Mormon superstar DJ (the Times said he now earns US$200,000 a set) came across as humble, articulate and intelligent in the length feature, and admitted some of his less enlightened fellow Mormons are uncomfortable with his career.

"I get asked this from other Mormons," he said. " 'Dude, you're promoting that lifestyle and that culture'," he admitted. "And I'm like 'No, man, I'm not. Listen to my music," he said. The fundamentalist Christian religion demands followers abstain from alcohol, tobacco and tea and coffee as well as sexual temptations and loss of self-control.
