A few weeks after the dust has settled following the latest results of the DJ Magazine Top 100 poll, the biggest talking point seems to be the singular lack of female DJs in the Top 100.
No Annie Mac (pictured), no Lottie, no Lisa Lashes, no Maya Jane Coles, no Magda, no Deniz Kurtzel, no Nina Kraviz, no Mary Anne Hobbs etc. What does it all mean though? Well, David Guetta - somewhat inevitably - won the competition, and as more of a pop producer than DJ, his victory has devalued the competition in some people's eyes (and also further blurred the lines between the 2 skills). But it's also worth pointing out that most of the voters are young men, and it's marketing driven - so if you don't campaign for it, you're unlikely to finish high up the chart. So, if you don't like it and think that more female DJs should be represented in the poll (and they really should), then you've got one year to get your campaign up and running... djmag.com for the full results.
