After a hugely successful launch in 2010, Movida Corona returns to the Middle East, and promises to be even bigger and better.
What is Movida?Movida is a project created by Corona to find the best up-and-coming talent in house music; a platform from with the future the top DJs and producers can vault themselves onto the world music stage. Winners from each country or region then compete against their counterparts from around the world, and are given the chance to work with some of house music's best known artists. Much like the Red Bull Music Academy, Movida invites internationally recognised DJs to perform alongside and judge Movida competitions across Europe and the Middle East; this year's associates include Axwell, Steve Angelo and Erik Morillo. The Middle East's winner last year - DJ Sarantino who represented Abu Dhabi - went on to compete in Berlin at club Trésor, an experience. And despite not actually winning, he still regards it as one of the high points of his DJing life. Movida 20112011 promises to learn from the experiences of previous years and looks to take Movida to a whole new level of cool. Alongside an all expenses paid trip to the pan-European final in Madrid, the jewel in this year's Movida crown is that clubbing heavyweights 'Pacha' are on board as partners, with all the sway that their brand comes with: recording opportunities for the winning artists, residencies in Pacha clubs globally, the whole DJing kit and kaboodle.Who to expect: Here's what last year's competitors had to say about the opportunity... DJ Pro-MoeReal name: Mohamed El-WardaniSuccess in 2010: Middle East Finalist, Winner Heat 2 @ Alpha Club Where is he now: To add to slots at Pacha and Ministry in Egypt, Pro-Moe has recently played at some of the biggest club events in the region at Nasimi Beach, Atlantis. (Watch out for him at the Foam Parties!) In his words: "Having just arrived in Dubai with little knowledge of the dance music scene here, the Movida Corona competition was the way to go. I now know how to get a crowd grooving and plan on shaking things up in this year's Movida Corona." DJ JoshReal name: Joshua SushSuccess in 2010: Dubai Finalist - Winner Heat 1 @ Barasti Where is he now: Since his exposure last year, Josh has gone on to play at numerous clubs across the region and has opened for some big international acts. In his words: "As a house music lover, Movida was the perfect competition for me so I was really proud to make the finals. Since then I've been living the dream. Hope I never wake up!" DJ JeffReal name: Tarek BassamSuccess in 2010: Dubai Finalist - Winner Heat 3 @ 360° Where is he now: Jeff has gone on to be a successful DJ and promoter around the UAE. In his words: "Being a Movida Corona winner inspired me to go on and start my own nights which have become pretty successful. It also opened the door for lots more gigs back in Lebanon." All of the above have used Movida as a springboard to bigger and better things. Corona are asking all aspiring DJs to come on board and try to do the same. And you ...With all talk of prizes and glory, Movida would be nothing without the talent, which is why Corona are looking to find you, the closet DJs, the bedroom producers, the part-timers looking for a stage on which you can shine. This is your chance, so seize it while you can. To compete in the competition in 2011, simply send an e-mail to the below address and you will then be told how to apply.
