Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee organised a rave for his son Brandon's 14th birthday last week, which was so well produced that police shut it down, he revealed. "I bought a huge sound system, lights, Glo-sticks ... The cops came three times and he was so pumped," Tommy told US TV show Extra, "He was like, 'Dad, this is the coolest thing; my party got closed down by the cops'," he laughed. The sometime percussionist for DJs including Erick Morrillo and Adam Freeland became infamous for being one of heavy metal's most excessive and indulgent celebrities during his Motley Crue heyday moving seamlessly into club culture as the band's career spluttered in the noughties. Chatting to Pacha magazine in 2004, he recalled feeling immediately at home the first time he visited London's Ministry of Sound as he ventured out into mainstream clubland. "I remember walking in and it was loud as f*ck. I saw the sign saying 'Enter At Your Own Risk' and I f*cking love anything with a sign that says that," said Tommy, "And, dude, I lost my mind," he added.
