Peter Hook's Manchester 'supergroup' Freebass split up this week just days before the release of their long awaited debut album "It's A Beautiful Life' following a flurry of furious Twitter posts by Gary Mani Mounfield about the New Order/ Joy Division legend. The former Stone Roses and still current member of Primal Scream ridiculed Hooky with insults including "we were all laughing behind his back watching the stupid wank struggle to do the same old shit he's done for the last 30 years" and added "Can't be doing with talentless nostalgia fuckwit whores". The band formed in 2005 when Hooky, Mani and former Smiths bassist Andy Rourke teamed up to make music based around the concept of three bass players, though made slow progress as all three concentrated on other projects. According to Freebass' official site, Rourke left the band to relocate to New York this year though Mani's departure appears to have been sparked by his annoyance at Peter Hook playing a series of concerts performing Joy Division's seminal 1970s Unknown Pleasures album in full.
