He’s a self-confessed Dirty Dutchman and has released the dance floor hit ‘Let the Bass Kick’ which became ubiquitous in the global club scene. Introducing DJ Chuckie, who chats to us about his own events, playing with David Guetta and texting P Diddy…

You have some industry fans, with David Guetta asking you to spin at Pacha’s infamous “F*CK me I’m Famous” event and your recent hits dominating Judge Jules’ Radio 1 mixes. With whom would you most like to collaborate?

I would love to share a stage with Carl Cox some day, I like the energy he delivers! Besides that, it would give me an opportunity to play some other styles. I mean house is cool but I like to flirt with more techy stuff too!

You’re best known for your dance-floor anthems ‘Guess What’ and ‘Let the Bass Kick’. How does it feel when you release a track that takes off on a rollercoaster of success?

It’s the best feeling in the world when you see the crowd go bananas on your own tracks. The reaction of the crowd is something really important to me whenever I play a new record. It always tells me if the tracks will kill or fill dancefloors. When I released “Let The Bass Kick” I never expected it to be such a success. It went from sensation to LMFAO to Jermaine Dupri & Lil Jon. The recent chart #9 position in the UK was something I never expected to happen because I make my music for dancefloors, not for the radio, I was super happy the kids bought it and made it a smash.

Although you were born in South America you have spent most of your life in the Netherlands, even setting up a sell-out annual event called ‘Dirty Dutch.’ What’s the concept all about?

The concept is about the way I see clubbing. It started when I did a lot of bookings in Holland and the parties weren’t really as how I wanted them as far as atmosphere, decoration and entertainment. So I started Dirty Dutch to do parties the way I wanted. Dirty Dutch grew really fast from a small club event to one of the biggest house events in the country. Apparently a lot of people could relate to Dirty Dutch where it came to a point people see Dirty Dutch as a lifestyle.

There’s a lot of talent from that part of the world, how would you compare yourself to established legends like Armin van Buuren and Sander van Doorn?

Armin Van Buuren is a true pioneer to this game, just like Tiesto . They brought the status of a dj to a whole new level. Their music and everything around it is well thought and planned. Compared to them I feel that my story is a bit more streetwise and raw. I would love to keep it as raw as possible,  so I might end up saying the wrong stuff in an interview, haha!

You’ve had the pleasure of playing at dance festivals across Europe including Loveland and Dance Valley. Do you have any other career objectives besides playing out at high profile events?

At the moment I’m also running my own record label called DIRTY DUTCH MUSIC. Through my label I’d love to develop new artists and support young talent. I just love to work with music all day. So if I ain’t playing at a party you can find me in the studio!

Tell us what you’ll be doing in 5 years?

In about 5 years I will be living on a sunny Island and I hopefully you will interview me again, but we will do the interview under a palm tree!!!

Looking Closer… Chuckie
