Simon Reid has been creating some awesome musical waves in his recent sets at Revolve 360°. A resident performer at the Southport Weekender, Simon has earned the right to be classed as one of our region’s finest spinners, so Infusion caught up with him to learn more …
What are your earliest musical memories? My dad playing 70’s lounge music, I hated it back then but now thinking about it, it was probably really cool. I must ask my dad what the tape was called!
First singles / records you ever bought? Prince – The Bat Song.
What or who made you want to be a DJ? Danny Rampling playing in the back room at amnesia in ibiza 1997
First gig. Where why and when? It was my own night, ‘Irresistible’ at the Dust Bar in Clerkenwell, London in 2003.
Biggest gig where why and when? It was the Southport Weekender 43 (November, 2008) official after-party; 1000 soulful house-heads grooving to the beats. Nothing better!
If I shoved you into a musical pigeon-hole, what would the sign outside say? No Electro here...
Most embarrassing DJ-ing moment? Falling asleep in the booth in Turnmills, very messy night indeed!
Proudest DJ-ing moment? Playing in the VIP room at Southport Weekender a couple of years ago and having Danny Krivit, Kerri Chandler, Quentin Harris, Monique Bingham and Tortured Soul all dancing to my music.
Production? Remixing? Do you sing or play the tin whistle? I used to dabble in production at G-Clubs studios in London, so once my life starts to slow down here I’m hoping to start cracking some tunes out.
What's in your ideal DJ booth, equipment-wise? A Funktion One sound system. 2 x CDJs. 2 x Technics Vinyl Decks. Serato built in. Pioneer EFX1000 and either a Urei or Phazon rotary mixer!
If you could collaborate with anyone in the world (dead or alive) who would it be? Phil Asher
A man of few words, but a great sound, Simon Reid is spins out regularly at Revolve, 360° on Saturdays. Hits sets are always worth taking on with some post-sunset Coronas. We will see you there.
